A Skincare Routine For the Minimalist Babe
October 16 2017
If you love camping and don’t care about traversing around mountainous trails a la Cheryl Strayed in Wild, and camping in the wilderness, without an actual shower in sight, you’re a minimalist babe and this article is for you. You’re a lucky lady, because chances are, you’ve always had good skin and your skincare regimen has been just some splashes of water, maybe a wash cloth and a drugstore moisturizer that you don’t remember the brand of.
Even though you’ve been blessed with good skin, as we age, just like our 3-day benders and the consequential hangovers, our bodies aren’t like it used to be. Wyld’s mama sage advice is this: “You don’t want to wait till you’re a prune to be a grape; when you’re a grape, you want to stay a grape.” Translation: take care of your skin now, and practice a simple skincare routine everyday, it’ll go a long way in maintaining the good health of your skin for years to come.
If you’ve never had a skincare routine, but want to start now - minimalism is key. Start with the basics, and build from there. There’s no need to spend a fortune; start by testing products and brands which offers sample sizes or travel kits for purchase. Many green beauty websites like Bella Cuore, Clementine Fields and The Detox Market, offer great range of samples and travel kits. Here at Wyld Skincare, we want all babes to reap the benefits of having a konjac sponge in their skincare routine so we always offer a ‘7 Day Babe-Approved Guarantee' - that means money back if you don’t love your Wyld.
Now, read on below to find out more on how a simple beauty ritual will keep your skin healthy and glowing like sunbeams are radiating off it.
Take it all off
Finding the right cleanser is key because the foundation of a good skincare routine begins with a clean bare face. The rule of thumb for a cleanser that’s right for any skin types is this - it should not leave your face feeling tight. If it is, it’s a clear sign to ditch it because the ingredients are stripping your skin, leaving it dry and tight. It also shouldn’t leave your face feeling like there’s still an oily film sitting on your skin either. It’s a delicate balance and like finding the perfect man, you might have to shop around till you find the right one that you can’t live without. For busy babes, look out for a cleanser that also removes makeup in one fell swoop.
If you want to skip the cleanser all together in the morning, here’s a tip for the a.m.: Splash your face with some cool water, exfoliate ever so gently with your Wyld sponges (no cleanser necessary), to lift and loosen up any dirt, sweat and dead skin that have accumulated overnight. Our skin cells come alive when we go to bed and they are hard at work repairing and regenerating - that means when you wake up, a mild exfoliation will rejuvenate, reinvigorate and refresh your skin before you put your ‘face’ on for the day, aka makeup. That’s how you get that secret glow going ;)
Strip clothes, not skin
Next up is toning; this is a key step and not to be missed. Toning helps prep your skin to absorb what’s to come next - moisturizing. A good toner also helps to re-balance the natural pH of your skin (slightly acidic, around 5-5.5) after cleansing. A good toner also doubles as a hydrator and works double duty to add hydration to your skin in addition to a moisturizer. Skin also better absorbs moisturizers when it is damp, than dry. Always read the label and look for a toner with all-natural ingredients, with no alcohol as that’d dry out your skin. Our favorite ingredients for toner is Rosewater, Aloe Vera, Witch Hazel, and Willow Bark. Can’t go wrong with those.
Wet & Wyld
As you know, the skin is our largest organ and will be the first place to show the signs of dehydration, stress, a hangover or lack of sleep fairly quickly. Dehydrated or dry skin ages much faster than those with oily skin types, read: wrinkles. The first step is find out what your skin type is, once and for all. To keep to Wyld’s ‘simple is extraordinary’ mantra, we’d recommend a moisturizer that has everything that you need all-in-one - water-based so it hydrates your skin and botanical oils to treat, moisturize, and to seal it all in. Again, look at the ingredients, and pick one that has plant-based ingredients (active ingredients), listed as the first five ingredients. Also avoid any products that have toxic ingredients or skin irritants such as Parabens, Phthalates, Propylene Glycol, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Formaldehyde, Fragrance, and Triclosan (Read: 5 toxic chemicals you should eliminate from your beauty routine) - messed up stuff. Around 80% of the ingredients at the top make up most of the product, so keep an eye on those nasties.
Stick to what nature has to offer, like our all-natural, plant-based facial cleansing exfoliating sponges and take the guess work out of skincare, because honestly who has time for that?
